Debbie Porter
Debbie Porter is a Louisiana girl living on a lake in rural east Texas. She grew up with the tunes her grandmother sang in the cotton fields and the country music greats she heard on the Louisiana Hayride. Debbie created the Dulcimers for David project to honor David Schnaufer. The project provides instruments to young people across the country through CD and DVD sales and donations. Her original song Hard Driving Rain won the Songwriting category at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield a few years ago and she loves to teach the “user-friendly” mountain dulcimer and ukulele.
Debbie has been creating instructional books and DVDs for several years and has produced 8 CDs, 6 for dulcimer and 2 for ukulele. Her Treasury of Tunes book for mountain dulcimer contains tab for 60 songs and includes a CD. Her new recording, Still Dreamin’ features great familiar jazz tunes played on baritone ukulele accompanied by wonderful blues and jazz musicians. Tunes include: Ain’t Misbehavin, Dream a Little Dream, Exactly Like You, I’m gonna sit right down and write myself a letter and more.
Debbie is a featured teacher and performer for the Quarantunes Dulcimer Festivals and Christmas Concerts. She performs often with bass guitar master Dave Stanley, who was with Dolly Parton for 12 years and featured on many notable recordings and concerts.
